Community Health Trust - Sierra Leone
The People Behind CHT

Jacqui Forte of Salisbury, England founded the Community Health Trust in 2008 after spending time visiting the rural areas in Sierra Leone with her 2 teenagers. She witnessed first hand the lack of training and facilities available in the remote areas.

By self funding 5 further trips to the country and working with the community in Petifu Jacqui orchestrated the building of the new Health Centre that serves over 3000 people. The community now has a clean, safe environment for deliveries and treatment, clinics provided on topics such as HIV/Well Woman/Sanitation and Health Awareness.

Patricia Turray is Jacqui's Sierra Leone partner and works tirelessly for very little remuneration to facilitate the programme when Jacqui is not in the country. Patricia currently lives in Makeni and travels to the village regularly to ensure continuation of the services. Travelling on public transport in Sierra Leone is a job in itself with many breakdowns, accidents and delays.
